Stance On Job Creation

There is no more important challenge now for our country than the creation of new jobs and the restoration of our economy. But the greatest impediment to job creation is uncertainty. Our government must act to restore confidence through all of its actions, words and policies. The goal is to increase jobs in the private sector, not in the government.

What do we need to do to encourage hiring in the private sector?

We need to have:

  • A stable monetary policy.
  • Transparent and rational regulatory policies.
  • Low taxes.
  • Better education and training of our work force so that people can compete in the global environment.

We do not need stimulus bills which are profligate and do not represent an investment in society. Only 17% of the recent Stimulus Bill went to the rebuilding of our infrastructure, a proper role of a government stimulus package. Infrastructure repair and maintenance provide immediate and much needed jobs and the highest immediate payoff to the country of any kind of spending.
In New Hampshire, we need to do a much better job of attracting businesses to our state, bringing with them the jobs and revenue that we urgently need. We should not only seek American companies to set up operations here, but should target foreign companies interested in a positive and “business friendly” state in which to operate.

To be “business friendly”, New Hampshire must:

  • Regain its ‘Low Tax Advantage’.
  • Invest in the technical education of our workforce.
  • Maintain our infrastructure of roads, bridges, port, and utilities.
  • Moreover, we must be willing and eager to promote New Hampshire to business as a superior place to live and work.
